A Brief History…

District 39 was formed as part of the formal redistricting of District 13 at the October 1990 Washington Area Assembly. The first business meeting was held in September. Until 2013, this meeting has always been held at the Emmanuel Presbyterian Church in Bothell, which is also the location the Bothell Group, the oldest group in the district.
Two of the district's groups, The 12 and 12 Fellowship Group and Seven and Sober, host a large number of meetings, 40 meetings a week between them.
The district has held numerous service and district functions since its formation, including: annual Gratitude dinners, a Festival of Sobriety, Days of Gratitude celebration, annual Halloween Dances, and delegate's reports.

The district history began to take shape when Janet D., past district treasurer, was storing a big box that she had taken over when she became treasurer. She had been told that the box held a "bunch of junk". Karen R arranged to pick up the box. When she sorted through the contents, it it turned out that it contained a treasure of early district records, including the hand written notes from the first district business meeting. The district decided to establish the position of district archivist in order to preserve the records. ...excerpt from "Our Stories Disclose".

Our Purpose…

District 39 supports A.A.’s efforts to reach the alcoholic who stills suffers. We do this through our home groups to whom we are directly responsible, our district committees, and our fellowship. The message is carried by distributing AA literature, sponsoring AA oriented social events, coordinating meetings with corrections and local treatment facilities, and maintaining a website and a newsletter. Our district is strengthened through quarterly education provided by the Area 72 committee and business quarterlies, PRAASA attendance, and the annual Area 72 General Assembly.
